AP English Essays are Notoriously Difficult

Writing 3 college-level essays in under 2 hours is a daunting task.

Students often find themselves staring at a blank sheet of paper while trying to figure out their approach to a Synthesis vs Argument essay… or to a Poetry vs Prose Fiction analysis…

Determining approach is one thing.

Actually writing the essays is another thing.

Now, good writing is good writing.

BUT… the College Board considers a very specific set of scoring criteria across 3 areas that need to be addressed (i.e. Thesis, Evidence & Commentary, Sophistication) .

There are some amazing AP English teachers out there (including your teacher, hopefully!) that should be able to get you partly there.

However, even veterans of the industry have a difficult time teaching students a simple and methodical approach that works for students of different levels…

We Understand AP English… At a Deeper Level Than Most.

Your teacher for the course is Kristian.

He’s taught AP English for 20 years, is a lead instructor for the National Writing Project, and teaches OTHER teachers how to teach writing.

His students consistently score in the 90th percentile on the AP English exams.

This is even more impressive considering that he works in a public school with a large population of socioeconomically disadvantaged students.

What’s his secret?

He figured out how to deconstruct the most difficult part of the exam, the FRQ essays (Free Response Questions).

You’ll learn 1 template to create the thesis.

You’ll learn another template to construct each body paragraph.

It’s as straightforward as that.

He essentially has created a Bob Ross “paint-by-numbers” approach to AP English essays that pretty much guarantees success on the exam… for ANY student.

Almost sounds too good to be true.

Like anything else, students still have to put in the work.

But if they do… success on the written portion of the exam is pretty much guaranteed.

A 3-pronged Approach for Success

Step #1 – Learn

Over the course of our sessions together, we will explore how two templates can be uniformly applied to tackle each of the FRQs on both the AP Literature and AP Language exams.

Step #2 – Model

Kristian will demonstrate a number of models so that the process of writing each individual FRQ is perfectly clear.

Step #3 – Practice

Following Kristian’s lead, students will in turn have ample opportunity to try their hand at drafting their own responses to previous AP exam FRQs.

At the End of the 4-Week BootCamp, Your Student Will Develop:

1.  A new (and BETTER) way of approaching the AP Literature and AP Language essays

2.  A deep understanding of our templates & how to properly apply them for consistent score increases

3.  Enhanced compositional techniques… to dominate the AP English FRQs, of course… but also to improve future writing as well

*Scheduling conflict? No worries. You’ll have access to a recording of the sessions.

Students will work with Kristian, a veteran English teacher and HIGHLY-RATED instructor.

Kristian earned his M.A.T. in English and Education from Brown University.

During his time there, he also worked in the undergraduate admissions office reading and critiquing college personal statements.

After Brown, Kristian embarked on a 20+ year career as a high school English teacher.

Over the years, he has honed and developed a set of templates that demystify the writing process.

This allows his students to regularly make outsized gains, regardless of level.

When not teaching students how to write, he teaches OTHER teachers how to teach writing as a Lead Instructor for the National Writing Project.

Other AP English Teachers Praise His Course as a “Game Changer”…

I’m a grizzled veteran of 27 years and have taken away so much from this course…This course is a game changer. My AP Literature students said that they felt like I was giving them a “cheat code.”

I used his techniques from day one and my students smashed the exam.

He totally opened my eyes to doing things a whole different, more effective way.

Kristian’s classes have helped me refine my writing instruction and I will never go back!

…And High School Students Describe Him as a “Profound Influence”

Mr. Kuhn taught me AP Language Arts during my junior year of high school and I saw a more rapid and dramatic improvement in my writing than I have any year since.

Thank you, Mr. Kuhn, for being one of the most profound influences in both my educational, and personal lives.

I was lucky enough to have Mr. Kuhn as a teacher for two years in high school, and that first year, I fell in love with writing.

While writing has always been a passion of mine, it was not until I took Mr. Kuhn’s class that I feel I truly learned how to compose a thoughtful and well-rounded piece.

There are not enough words to thank Mr. Kuhn for his influence on my writing.
