12 Best Online Calculus Tutors in 2026 (35 Services Reviewed)

Research conducted by Ro van Wingerden, Ivy League Math Tutor. Expert-reviewed by Kevin Wong, PrepMaven Co-founder

Using over two decades of experience in education, we’ve carefully researched dozens of calculus tutoring services and selected the top 5 options available in 2026, plus 7 more backup choices.

Whether you’re a high schooler getting started in calculus for the first time or a math major brushing up before an exam, a good calculus tutor from the top services we found will be able to help you reach your goals and even have a good time doing it.

Not all calculus tutoring services solve the same problem. Some focus on AP Calculus test prep, others on homework help, and others on longer-term support. The “best” option depends on how much support you want; whether you want to focus on learning new material, homework help, or test prep; and what kind of guidance actually helps you to master the material and feel more confident.

Instead of “Which tutoring service is best?,” the real question is: “Which service works for me for my specific goals and needs?”

The best of the rest:

Our team independently researched and tested over 35 calculus tutoring services, assessing tutor expertise, teaching quality, pricing, and student satisfaction to identify the most reliable and effective options in 2026.

Each provider was assessed across key factors, including tutor qualifications and training, instructional quality and customization, value for price, consistency and tutor matching, AP/college calculus depth), platform and learning tools, and customer satisfaction and support.

#1 – PrepMaven

Our Verdict – Best Online Calculus Tutoring Overall

Price: $79–349/hour

PrepMaven offers high-quality one-on-one calculus tutoring at an incredibly reasonable price, given the impressive qualifications of its instructors.

Nearly all of PrepMaven’s tutors are Ivy-League grads (with a few tutors from other top-30 universities), and many have prestigious degrees in math and related STEM fields. Tutors are also thoughtfully vetted and evaluated on their ability to communicate and connect with students. When a student signs up for tutoring through PrepMaven, the team carefully pairs them with their best match, taking the student’s personality traits and interests into account. Studies have shown that a close personality match between student and tutor leads to better learning outcomes.

PrepMaven’s experienced tutors can customize learning sessions to meet the needs of each individual student. Depending on the student’s goals, tutors can help students work through homework assignments, review material from class, or provide additional enrichment and challenge material. PrepMaven’s attentive tutors can find any gaps in a student’s knowledge and fill in those gaps to lay strong math foundations.

PrepMaven’s tutors are also well-equipped to help students preparing for standardized tests, such as AP Calculus AB or BC. Students aiming at a private high school can also prepare for the SSAT or ISEE with their tutor.

Founded by brothers and Princeton grads Greg and Kevin, PrepMaven focuses on delivering consistently high-quality tutoring to students. All tutors undergo a thorough training program and can use proprietary teaching materials to help students reach their goals.

To make high-quality tutoring accessible to more families, PrepMaven offers calculus  tutoring at several different price points. At the most affordable rate, students can work with current Ivy-League undergraduates who specialize in math. At higher rates, students can work with experienced coaches who hold advanced graduate degrees.

This is for you if:

  • You’re looking for high-quality calculus tutoring, whether in-person or online
  • You want a service that has the flexibility to fit your budget
  • You want a highly qualified tutor who went to a top school and has been extensively trained

At a glance:

  • Cost: $79–349/hour, depending on tutor qualifications; minimum $450 package
  • Math tutor qualifications: Ivy-League tutors, all experienced and highly trained, some with master’s or doctoral degrees

What we like:

  • Ivy League experience — most of their calculus tutors are Princeton grads or current students, with some from Harvard and other Ivies
  • Different pricing options to meet different families’ circumstances
  • Smaller, boutique company offers more individualized approach customized for each student

What we don’t like:

  • Because they take the time to pair each student with the tutor that will be the best fit, sessions are not instantaneous and usually it takes 1–3 days to schedule with a calculus tutor

#2 – Prep Expert

Our Verdict — Best AP-Focused Service

Price: $79–99/hour

Better known for their SAT prep group courses, Prep Expert also offers individual tutoring in calculus.

However, the tutors may be inexperienced at tutoring and don’t benefit from training, so the quality of teaching may be uneven. Many are still undergraduates.

One thing to keep in mind is that Prep Expert is focused on standardized testing, meaning that students sign up for tutoring in AP Calculus AB or AP Calculus BC. That might be helpful if your priority is getting a good score, but the narrow focus on test prep can take away from truly understanding calculus concepts.

This is for you if:

  • You’re preparing for AP Calculus AB or BC and want to focus exclusively on test prep

This may not be for you if:

  • You want a focus on understanding calculus concepts, not just test prep
  • You want a highly qualified and experienced tutor

At a glance:

  • Cost: $79-99/hour, depending on how many hours you purchase
  • Tutor qualifications: tutors do not benefit from training, so quality may not be guaranteed

What we like:

  • Affordable rates
  • Test-prep focus can be useful for short-term tutoring before an AP exam

What we don’t like:

  • Focuses on test prep, not on understanding calculus concepts
  • Tutors lack training

#3 – K12 Tutoring

Our Verdict — One-Off Sessions with Certified Teachers

Price: $34.99 for 30-minute session, $64.99 for 60-minute session

K12’s biggest selling point is that all tutors are state-certified teachers. That means that, while tutors may not have top degrees, families can count on trained educational professionals with experience in their field. On the other hand, this also means that tutors will generally be working on the side of a busy classroom career, raising the possibility of burnout and overwork.

K12 is also relatively affordable compared to pricey services like ArborBridge and Central Park Tutors, charging $65 per hour (although this is comparable to a service like PrepMaven, which exclusively hires tutors from top universities).

K12 tutoring sessions are conducted on the company’s own online platform, and reviews on their website mention students having technical difficulties, so families may need to ensure they’re around during sessions to help out in case of website crashes.

This is for you if:

  • You want the predictability that comes with working with a full-time teacher
  • You’re looking for a budget-friendly option

This may not be for you if:

  • You don’t want to deal with a buggy online tutoring platform

At a glance:

  • Cost: $34.99 for 30-minute session, $64.99 for 60-minute session
  • Tutor qualifications: Tutors are state-certified teachers

What we like:

  • Tutors are state-certified teachers

What we don’t like:

  • Student reviews note that the online teaching platform can be buggy
  • Tutors are, by definition, working on top of a busy teaching schedule

#4 – Schoolhouse

Our Verdict — Best Free Peer Calculus Tutoring

Price: Free

Created by Sal Khan, who is also the founder of well-known educational non-profit Khan Academy, Schoolhouse is an innovative platform for peer tutoring. Its most appealing feature is that it’s a free service available to any student aged 13 and up.

Students who are strong in calculus can take a short test to check their knowledge. Qualified students can then volunteer to host small-group tutoring sessions online to help their peers who might be struggling.

Schoolhouse’s peer tutoring is designed to reinforce and practice what students are learning in school. There’s no adult or qualified instructor leading the tutoring sessions, and all sessions are in groups open to any student worldwide to join, so we wouldn’t recommend it for students who need targeted help learning specific calculus concepts or want to move at their individual pace. However, it can be a fun way for students to practice math alongside their peers, and since it’s completely free, Schoolhouse is accessible to any student with an internet connection.

This is for you if:

  • You want to practice calculus problems in a group with your peers
  • You want to start with a free option

This may not be for you if:

  • You want to work with a qualified, trained tutor

At a glance:

  • Cost: $0
  • Calculus tutor qualifications: current students age 13+ — students take a quiz to prove their knowledge, but no other qualifications are required

What we like:

  • Completely free and open to any student worldwide age 13+
  • Students can work with their student peers, which some might find more approachable

What we don’t like:

  • Tutors are other young students and have no qualifications
  • Small-group setting doesn’t provide individual attention to students
  • Not a substitute for learning guided by an experienced instructor

#5 – Wyzant

Our Verdict — Alternative Tutoring Service for Families on a Budget

Price: $20–600/hour

There are plenty of large platforms with large stables of part-time tutors and coaches available to work with students. Wyzant is one of the largest such platforms, with more than 65,000 tutors providing services through their website — including 2,900 online calculus tutors. Students and families can pick individual tutors to work with from their roster and arrange tutoring services directly.

One benefit of this model is that tutors can set their own rates, which vary hugely. Families on a budget can find online writing tutors as low as $20 per hour.

However, there’s no guarantee that these tutors have any teaching experience or training, and they may not have graduated from a top school or have a math-related degree. Some tutors on Wyzant with more qualifications may have much higher rates — as high as $600 per hour!

This is for you if:

  • You’re willing to find your own tutor and take a gamble on quality
  • You want to find a tutor tailored to your budget

This may not be for you if:

  • You want a guarantee that you’ll be working with a qualified tutor
  • You don’t have the time to scroll through hundreds of tutors to find the right fit

At a glance:

  • Cost: $20–600/hour
  • Math tutor qualifications: varies from tutors with no qualifications to those holding advanced degrees (usually for much higher rates)

What we like:

  • Marketplace platform means that some tutors list low rates for tutoring, which can make tutoring more affordable
  • Families can choose their own tutor directly out of over 65,000 tutors listed

What we don’t like:

  • Tutors receive no training — which leads to uneven quality of instruction
  • Families are hiring individual tutors, which means tutor qualifications vary enormously, and there are no guarantees of tutoring quality
  • The work of choosing the right tutor out of 2,900+ calculus tutors falls on busy families

#6 – Mathnasium

Our Verdict — Calculus Homework Support

Price:
varies (franchise), typically $200–480/month

Mathnasium is a franchise with locations throughout the US and even internationally. As their name might suggest, they’re focused on fostering math skills only. Pricing varies by franchise location and by grade level, but most Mathnasium centers offer a flat monthly fee that allows students to attend math tutoring sessions regularly (whether online or in person), usually two or three times per week.

While other programs might focus on drills and exercises, Mathnasium typically focuses on helping students with their math homework and other math assignments. Mathnasium does not assign homework or create customized curricula for students.

One significant downside of Mathnasium’s approach is that students do not necessarily get to work with the same tutor each time. This disrupts continuity and makes it harder for students to learn, since a good tutor will track students’ progress over time and create assignments that target the needs of each individual student. There are also no specific qualifications for math tutors, so there’s no guarantee that the tutors are great teachers or have a high level of expertise in math.

Since each of the Mathnasium centers is locally owned and operated, the customer service experience can vary significantly.

This is for you if:

  • You mainly want support with calculus homework

This may not be for you if:

  • You want to work with the same tutor consistently

At a glance:

  • Cost: varies (franchise), typically $200–480/month (costs are higher for high school levels)
  • Math tutor qualifications: none specified

What we like:

  • Focus on math, and can help students understand their math homework and other school assignments

What we don’t like:

  • Tutoring isn’t necessarily one-on-one
  • Not the same tutor every time, which is not ideal for learning
  • Tutors do not have any specific qualifications

#7 – Khan Academy

Our Verdict — Excellent Free Calculus Resource

Price: Free

Technically speaking, Khan Academy does not belong on this list because they do not provide live tutoring with an instructor.

However, it’s such a great resource for math education that we had to include it here.

Khan Academy is an educational non-profit founded in 2008 with the mission to “provide a free, world-class education to anyone, anywhere.” They’re perhaps best known for their free SAT prep created in partnership with the College Board. However, since their original focus was on math education (inspired by the founder’s experience tutoring his young cousins in math), their math materials have always been particularly strong.

Khan Academy’s math education material spans preschool through multivariable calculus and differential equations. For each mathematical concept, they have short videos, practice problems, and quizzes.

While many students will benefit from a more customized learning plan guided by an experienced math tutor, Khan Academy’s resources are a fantastic tool for honing math skills.

This is for you if:

  • You want to start with self-study before working with a tutor

This may not be for you if:

  • You want to work with a live instructor
  • You need more external structure and accountability and don’t want to work 100% on your own

At a glance:

  • Cost: $0
  • Math tutor qualifications: N/A

What we like:

  • Free math resources available to anyone in the world
  • Platform and videos are high quality, with clean graphics and a mix of videos and practice
  • Offers step-by-step test preparation for the math portions of standardized tests

What we don’t like:

  • No live instructor, just pre-recorded videos and exercises
  • One-size-fits-all practice doesn’t match the specific needs of each student
  • Hundreds of math concepts can be overwhelming, and there’s no way to ask questions or receive a customized learning plan

#8 – Elite Ivy Tutors

Our Verdict — Luxury Service with Extra-Long Sessions

Price:
$200–300/hour

Elite Ivy Tutors (EIT) is a small team offering tutoring from Ivy-League graduates.

Unique among the tutoring services we researched, EIT schedules sessions that are two or three hours long, rather than sixty or ninety minutes long. This length of time can be challenging for students – not to mention that a single three-hour session at $200 to $300 per hour can set you back nearly $1000!

We like that EIT tutors are Ivy-League graduates, but compared to other services with such highly-qualified tutors, it can be significantly more expensive (compare PrepMaven, starting at $79 per hour, or the Tutoring Service of New York, starting at $130 per hour).

This is for you if:

  • You want extra-long sessions

This may not be for you if:

  • You don’t want 3-hour sessions
  • You’re not willing to pay high fees mostly for the Ivy name brand

At a glance:

  • Cost: $200/hour, or $300/hour to work directly with the company founder
  • Tutor qualifications: Ivy-League graduates

What we like:

  • Tutors are Ivy grads

What we don’t like:

  • Website is confusing and lacks information
  • Long tutoring sessions of two or three hours at a time can be challenging for students
  • Higher prices than other tutoring services that also offer the chance to work with Ivy-League grads

#9 – Central Park Tutors

Our Verdict  – Boutique Company with Steep Prices

Price: $165 per hour

Central Park Tutors (CPT) is a smaller tutoring service that requires tutors to hold master’s degrees. As a smaller tutoring company, they may be able to offer more personalized attention than tutoring giants like Tutor.com and Pearson.

Unfortunately, these perks also translate to higher rates – starting at $165 per hour. On the plus side, CPT is pay-as-you-go, meaning that families don’t have to commit to a minimum package for this pricey service.

This is for you if:

  • You don’t want to commit to a minimum package
  • You want a highly-educated tutor with an advanced degree

This may not be for you if:

  • You’re looking for a budget-friendly option

At a glance:

  • Cost: $165 hour
  • Tutor qualifications: Tutors hold master’s degrees in their fields and have at least two years of teaching experience

What we like:

  • Tutors are required to be qualified and experienced
  • Smaller company with a more boutique feel
  • No minimum package – pay as you go

What we don’t like:

  • Pricey service with little flexibility in tutoring rates

#10 – Tutoring Service of New York

Our Verdict — Qualified Tutors at a Higher Price Point

Price: $130–177/hour

Founded by a former tutor with the now-defunct Ivy Global tutoring service, the Tutoring Service of New York offers tutoring online or in person.

We like that this service gives you the option to book individual sessions — price upon request — if their packages don’t work for you. They also offer flexibility in the session format — sessions are typically 90 minutes, but you can divide your time into longer or shorter sessions if you want.

The link to see tutors on the website wasn’t working last we checked, so it’s not possible to see information about the team. Although the company says tutors are “rigorously trained,” it’s not clear what that means. They also take on just “a few clients at a time,” which might make it hard to get a tutor match.

This is for you if:

  • You want the flexibility to book tutoring hours without a minimum package

This may not be for you if:

  • You want a guarantee that your tutor is highly qualified or experienced

At a glance:

  • Cost: $1125 (online) or $1325 (in-person) for 7.5 hours; $2100 or $2475 for 15 sessions; $3120 or $3720 for 24 hours
  • Tutor qualifications: college graduates

What we like:

  • Flexible scheduling
  • No minimum package

What we don’t like:

  • Newer service, so client reviews are still limited
  • Limited information about tutor backgrounds and training

#11 – ArborBridge

Our Verdict: Pricey Service with Mystery Tutors

Price:
$165+/hour

ArborBridge stands out among the services we reviewed for their high fees – the base rate for tutoring is $165 per hour. They also advertise a “concierge” tutoring service with a more customized experience — price upon request.

It’s not clear what these higher fees will get you, though: ArborBridge does not list any specific qualifications for their tutors or provide any bios for their tutor roster. There’s no indication that their tutors have graduated from top colleges, have teaching experience, or any other relevant qualifications — unlike services like PrepMaven or Tutoring Service of New York that only or mostly hire Ivy-League tutors.

They also don’t offer any guarantees for raising grades or scores.

This is for you if:

  • You want a service with several locations in the Northeast US

This may not be for you if:

  • You want information on your tutor’s qualifications and experience
  • You want a budget-friendly option

At a glance:

  • Cost: $165/hour, with packages including $2480 for 15 hours (+ 1 bonus hour); $4950 for 30 hours (+ 3 bonus hours); $7446 for 45 hours (+ 6 bonus hours) — or “concierge tutoring” with “highest level of hands-on care,” price upon request
  • Math tutor qualifications: unknown

What we like:

  • Known for good customer service
  • Younger, more modern tutoring service that’s built with technology from the get-go

What we don’t like:

  • Expensive, with packages that barely lower the cost per hour
  • No information about tutor qualifications provided
  • No guarantees for grade or score raises

#12 – Varsity Tutors

Our Verdict — Uneven Quality Without Budget Pricing

Price:
$60–95/hour

Varsity Tutors is an enormous tutoring platform offering online instruction in all academic subjects and test prep. The huge number of tutors means that families can usually find a calculus tutor quickly.

However, Varsity Tutors’ size has many downsides — most notably, very uneven quality of teaching.

Tutors at Varsity need only a high school degree, and there is no requirement for tutors to have a college degree or teaching experience, let alone a top-tier educational background or a specialization in math.

Tutors can join the Varsity team very quickly and are paid lower rates than nearly any other tutoring company (just $12–15 for sessions that cost families up to $95), so it’s difficult for Varsity to attract and retain good talent. Lucky families might get assigned a good tutor, but that’s not at all assured.

Varsity Tutors also does not provide any tutor materials, curriculum, or training, so it’s up to individual tutors to create everything from scratch, contributing further to the unevenness of quality.

With rates higher than the competition with similar types of tutors (no specific qualifications beyond a college degree), Varsity is significantly overpriced. We’d recommend that families either consider a more budget-friendly option that offers the same quality as Varsity in a lower price range (like Wyzant), or, if they’re looking for high-quality tutoring, consider a service like PrepMaven (starting at $79/hour) or Tutoring Service of New York (starting at $130/hour) that pairs students with highly-qualified tutors with advanced degrees and Ivy-League backgrounds.

This is for you if:

  • You want to work with one of the biggest tutoring companies

This may not be for you if:

  • You want a qualified, trained tutor

At a glance:

  • Cost: $60–95/hour
  • Tutor qualifications: high school graduates

What we like:

  • Large number of tutors, so you can be certain to find a tutor to fit your schedule

What we don’t like:

  • No education or training requirements for tutors, along with low pay rates for instructors, means tutors are less qualified than at alternative math tutoring services
  • Uneven teaching quality due to lack of resources for instruction
  • Overpriced given the lack of required qualifications for tutors

No matter what tutoring service you choose, it’s important for your tutor to be a good fit.

Your ideal tutor:

  • Has extensive experience teaching or tutoring calculus
  • Scored highly in calculus at a rigorous institution or on standardized exams
  • Is familiar with any calculus exams you’re preparing for, like AP Calculus AB or BC
  • Takes time to make sure you’ve understood the material before moving on
  • Reinforces concepts to ensure long-term retention
  • Customizes their teaching plan to your needs

On the other hand, working with a tutor who’s not a good fit can be frustrating and make calculus feel more challenging than it needs to be. Some warning signs that it might be time to make a switch include:

  • Using a cookie-cutter approach that doesn’t take each student’s needs into account
  • Rushing through material without checking that the student has grasped each concept
  • Not being available to meet consistently – studies show that students learn better when they work consistently with the same educator

Get in touch with our team to find a calculus tutor who’s the right fit for you!

Calculus tutoring can benefit almost anyone. You might want to consider working with a one-one-one calculus tutor if:

  • You’re taking calculus at school and want to improve your grades
  • You’re new to calculus and want support grasping complex concepts
  • You’re a seasoned calculus student but want to brush up on your skills before an exam
  • You’re preparing for AP Calculus AB or BC and want to improve your score
  • You want support with study skills, time management, and homework for your calculus classes
  • You’re aiming at a competitive college (not just the Ivy League!) and know that you need high test scores
  • You know that if you develop strong math skills now, you’ll do better on every STEM-related class, assignment, and exam for the rest of your life!

Any of these are good reasons to work with a calculus tutor. Especially if you’re getting ready to apply to college, advanced math like calculus can help you showcase your math skills and stand out.

  • Best Calculus Tutoring Overall: Out of the 35 calculus tutoring services we reviewed, PrepMaven is the best out there for quality of tutoring, tutor qualifications, and value for price. Families can choose a price point and frequency of tutoring that works for them, and all students are thoughtfully matched with a highly qualified, experienced tutor. Starting at just $66/hour, students can work with tutors who are current undergrads or alumni of Princeton, Harvard, Columbia, and other top schools.
  • Best Test-Focused Company: For students working towards AP Calculus AB or BC and you’re on a tighter schedule, Prep Expert offers test-focused tutoring. The narrow focus on test prep may not be as good a long-term investment as tutoring that emphasizes truly grasping calculus concepts, but if you have a shorter time to prepare for an important exam, Prep Expert might be a good fit.
  • Best Service With State-Qualified Teachers: If it’s important to you to work with a qualified educational professional, K12 Tutoring is the only service we reviewed that requires its tutors to be state-certified teachers. That does mean that they’re by definition working on top of a busy classroom load and tutoring for some extra income, which can risk tutor burnout, but you can rely on finding a qualified teacher.
  • Best Free Peer Tutoring: If you’re open to peer tutoring, Schoolhouse is a free service in which students ages 13+ can offer their peers free tutoring. Since tutors are generally still high school students themselves, there’s no quality guarantee, but some students might be more comfortable working with kids their own age.
  • Best Budget or Alternative Service: For families on a tighter budget, we’d suggest looking for an independent tutor on Wyzant. It’s a tutoring marketplace platform, so the quality varies hugely and there’s no oversight or qualification requirements, but you might find a decent math tutor under $40/hour.

Remember that a highly qualified, experienced, and well-matched tutor can often teach more in just a few sessions than a less skilled tutor could do in many more hours. For both your time and your budget, it can be more effective to choose a few sessions of high-quality teaching over a less reliable service.

A strong score on AP Calculus AB or BC won’t just boost your application to a top college, it can even allow you to place out of college math classes. That means that investing in your calculus skills through high-quality, one-on-one tutoring can translate to big savings in both time and tuition down the line.

Ready to improve your calculus skills with one of our experienced, Ivy-League tutors? Set up a quick, free consultation with our team to help find the best fit for you and your family, drawing on our decades of experience.

Remember that high grades and standardized test scores can be used to earn scholarships as well as college admission, so a few months of calculus tutoring now can pay off with big savings in tuition later.
