College Essay Workshop

For 11th & 12th Graders

Far too often, admissions officers trudge through personal statements that are cliche, boring, and easily forgettable.

The skills necessary for writing a standout college application essay are not taught in a typical high school English class.  We’re here to help.

Our co-founders, Kevin and Greg, have spent the last 10+ years helping students write great essays.  They have dissected countless essays to identify exactly what differentiates outstanding colleges essays from bad ones. They’ve researched and tested brainstorming exercises, storytelling frameworks, and writing techniques to discover what works best for high school students.

They’ve taken their best ideas and created a step-by-step program you can’t find anywhere else.

There is an amazing essay inside of you. During our 3 day workshop, we will help you tease it out and refine it. You will transform a blank piece of paper into a distinct, engaging, and memorable story that will set you apart from all the other applicants.  You’ll also walk away with a brand new toolkit of introspection and writing skills and enhanced confidence in your writing abilities.

What will this college essay workshop cover?

Our 3-day workshop will focus on the personal statement (vs supplements).

Where do I start? How do I engage the reader? How do I express my core values? How do I structure the essay?  How do I write a compelling intro? We address these questions and more.

Program components:

  • Understand what admissions officers are really looking for in your college essay
  • Learn powerful storytelling techniques
  • Generate insights about yourself through guided introspection exercises
  • Learn and refine writing techniques tailored for the college essay
  • Put it all together – Brainstorming, Outlining, Drafting, Editing, Iterating

Homework will be assigned after every session that must be completed before the next day.

At the end of our workshop, you will have created a great personal statement draft that you can be proud of. You will then use the techniques and strategies learned during our workshop to further refine and improve your essay.

Who will be leading these workshops?

Our workshops will be led by co-founders Kevin Wong and Greg Wong. They have over 20 years of education experience and have helped thousands of students.

Greg and Kevin were engineering majors at Princeton and had successful careers as strategy consultants and hedge fund operators. They now apply their data and research-backed problem solving skills to the college preparation process.

Over the years, Greg and Kevin have worked with an increasing number of private clients to dispel misconceptions about the admissions process and to help craft compelling college essays.  Their college essay approach teaches students how to use storytelling techniques to express their core values in an engaging way.

Their unique college counseling approach places a heavy emphasis on personal development, character, and service as key components of college admissions success.
